Nestled near the serene waters of Moon Vigil Bay, the Sleepy Warren is a sanctuary designed for the care and protection of Avereaux’s gentle jackalopes. These creatures, herbivorous rabbits adorned with delicate antlers, roam freely across a sprawling enclosure filled with dense underbrush, meandering ponds, and gentle streams, allowing them to live as naturally as possible. Unlike the horned rabbits of Valdraeth, these jackalopes are harmless, and the Warren’s design ensures their safety while promoting breeding and eventual release into the wild.
A sturdy hutch stands at the centre, offering shelter during storms and ample food stores for the harsh winter months. Multiple nest boxes are carefully integrated throughout the space, reflecting the creatures’ prolific breeding habits. The enclosure’s construction is simple but effective: wood and brick walls reinforced with wire and wood pilings sunk firmly into the earth, blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings without drawing attention away from the animals themselves.
Attached to the Sleepy Jackalope Inn, the sanctuary benefits from nearby care facilities and staff housing, while a small gift shop allows visitors to learn about and support the ongoing conservation efforts.
