Laughter is the Highest Form of Wisdom

“Where joy is studied, reverence is ridiculous, and every joke is a step toward the divine.”

A bold and brilliant proposal springs forth from the painted fringe of society: the College of Clowns, an institution devoted to both the higher mysteries of humor and the light-hearted worship of The Jester. This ornate building will serve not only as an academy of performance but as a temple to joy itself—where tumbling, satire, mimicry, and mirth are taught as sacred arts.

The College will be the size of a town hall, with flamboyant balconies, flourishes of stucco, and busts of famous fools lining its vibrant façade. Its crenelated rooftop jests at the seriousness of power, while the entire structure is painted in bright swathes of pink, purple, and electric blue—colours chosen to provoke grins and brighten even the greyest skies. Inside, the building winds like a puzzle box, filled with unexpected knobs, secret doors, rubber chickens, collapsing chairs, whoopee cushions, squirting flowers, and curious props that keep students sharp and smiling.

Behind the hilarity lies true intent. The College houses a modest yet treasured library of comedic scripts, religious treatises on The Jester, and ink-smudged scrolls of forgotten fun. Teaching rooms echo with staged chaos as students rehearse their craft, while dormitories offer rest to those devoted to a life of delight. At the heart of it all lies a great theatre where performances are staged not only for practice but for the public, sharing joy with all who pass through its brightly painted doors.

Finally, nestled in the centre of this grand jest is a shrine to The Jester—a space of strange serenity, lit with trick candles and strewn with streamers. Here, devout fools may give thanks to the divine trickster, offering their best jokes, slapstick rituals, or dramatic tumbles in worship.
