The Colossus Weaval Colosseum
The Colossus Weaval Colosseum is a new civic landmark proposed for the bustling harbors of Portavas, designed to marry the elegance of Kairosi architecture with the city’s deep passion for Weaval racing. The structure itself is modest in footprint, 25ft by 15ft, yet commanding in presence. Sixteen carved stone columns, chiseled in classical Kairosi style, form its skeleton: clean fluted lines capped with carved motifs of waves and leaping Weavals, representing both sport and sea. The colosseum is fronted by broad steps leading to two ceremonial entrances (north and south), their doors built of dark wood, reinforced with bronze studs, and polished to gleam in the sunlight.
Inside, the arena is not a stadium in scale but an intimate chamber where wagers are made, races are declared, and reputations are tested. At its centre lies the Racing Board, a 6ft by 3ft stone table, its surface inlaid with chalk grooves, polished bone counters, and bronze-inlaid tracking lines. It is both game table and record stone — upon it, the victories and failures of each Weaval and their owner are engraved. More than a simple gaming hall, the Colossus is intended to be a cultural bridge. By adopting Kairosi forms — tall columns, symmetry, and pitched roofing — the Portavans pay homage to their allies across the waves, while still asserting their own identity through the sport that only their seas can provide. It is expected to become a hub not just of racing, but of gambling, diplomacy, and spectacle, where fortunes will shift as swiftly as the creatures that inspire the games.
