“In shadow’s embrace, the burden fades, and the mind is made light.”
Within the solemn depths of the Syradonian caverns, a new sanctuary to The Shadow has been proposed—a place where memories, knowledge, and secrets too heavy to bear may be surrendered, never to trouble the mind again. The Apocrypha Nepenthium will be a refuge for those seeking release from truths they cannot unlearn, regrets they cannot undo, or thoughts they cannot silence.
At its centre will stand a polished marble altar, its surface smooth as still water, upon which rests a single great tome: the Apocrypha itself. Bound in black leather and filled with pages of deep, jet-dark parchment, this sacred book is said to be a direct vessel to The Shadow. Those who write within it will find the memory or secret they have inscribed no longer theirs—vanished from their mind, carried away into the god’s eternal keeping.
The building housing the Apocrypha will be carved directly from the living rock of the caverns, its form modest yet purposeful, the dim light within falling upon the altar like a single, silent stage. Blackstone carvings of masked figures will line the walls, each said to represent a memory long since surrendered.
Here, priests of The Shadow will keep silent vigil, guiding supplicants through the rite of surrender. Whether a whispered guilt, a dangerous truth, or a memory too painful to carry, all will be taken without judgement. In the Apocrypha Nepenthium, the mind can be made light, and the soul walk on unburdened.
