The Lonely Shack
The Lonely Shack is envisioned as a humble but vital wayhouse on the endless stretches of The Great Plains. Placed at the crossroads where Syradonia, Morvalis, and the Wonder brush against one another, it will serve as a beacon of rest and safety for merchants, pilgrims, wanderers, and emissaries who brave the treacherous journey across the open wilds.
The Shack will be constructed of stone foundations and timber walls, with a roof of broad thatch pitched steeply against the winds of the plains. Its grand double doors, crafted from oak and bound in iron, will remain unbarred save in times of peril, symbolizing its role as a neutral house of welcome. A ring of windows ensures the communal spaces are filled with daylight, while lantern sconces provide warmth in the long evenings.
Inside, a central hearth-hall forms the heart of the Shack, with trestle tables for meals, maps of the surrounding lands etched on the walls, and benches where stories and news may be shared. The structure will contain eight sleeping chambers (two beds each, for a total of 16 travellers), furnished simply but sturdily. Floors are to be lined with woven reed mats, and furnishings stained in earthy tones to echo the land outside.
Around the Shack will be wooden paddocks for beasts of burden, as well as a small bathhouse and secure stables for wagons and mounts. These facilities ensure safety from wild predators and thieves during overnight stays. The initial proposer of this build hopes that, in time, expansions may include heated baths, artificial hot springs, and larger stabling facilities, allowing the Lonely Shack to grow into a true crossroads inn.
