The Pass Watch is a proposed garrison and watchtower to be raised in the Braeleven Valley, where long horizons stretch over snowbound ground and vigilance is the only shield against what approaches unseen. It is to be built in stone, its walls thick and formidable, encircling a wooden barracks for fifty soldiers, with room for knights, squires, trainers, and men-at-arms. A communal mess hall, also timber, will be joined to the barracks, the scent of woodsmoke and stew becoming the hearth of the garrison.

At the centre stands the watchtower itself, four stories high and connected directly to the walls. From its summit, a great beacon brazier will be kept ready, able to cast warning fire across the valley when danger is near. The walls around the garrison rise two stories, their walkways broad enough for patrols to march, with battlements and crenelations to defend against assault. The gates are heavy wood bound in iron, secure yet welcoming to allies who pass through.

Within the walls, a training ground will occupy the heart of the garrison, enclosed by fencing and fitted with lists for mounted practice, sparring pits, and racks for arms. Though the infirmary and forge will at first be simple timber structures, intended only to provide immediate function, plans for their replacement in stone are already conceived, ensuring that the Watch will grow in permanence as time and coin allow.

From its rise above the valley floor, the Pass Watch will become both a guardian and a statement. It will hold its beacon high, ensuring no enemy approaches unseen, and its walls will ring with the sound of training steel, proving to Valdraeth’s people that their strength is being tempered day by day. Its design allows for endless future additions, but even at its inception, the garrison will stand as a silent warning: Valdraeth is not blind to the horizon, and those who come against it will be met with prepared steel.
