Narrative Tracks
At Menhirs Fate there are many ways to interact with various powerful entities in the world. Some of these can grant power and other rewards through completing impressive feats or bargains and pacts along with as many ways as there are stories. These systems are designed to allow us to track your interaction with various beings and progress the story we are all trying to tell. These can be made with many beings within the setting of Menhirs Fate that have power to offer and not all of them are benevolent.
Ascension Paths
Ascension Paths are a way for characters to gain a Patron that will eventually allow them ascend into a creature of the Spheres themselves (including the Spirit Sphere, although not as a god). This is a long path and involves retiring the character at the end. It is designed to be a full narrative arc that will take multiple events and allow you to become a powerful creature. At the end of the arc as you gain powers and become more closely aligned with a Sphere, your soul and body will warp into a new form that will be playable for one event before leaving Haven to pursue new goals in the relevant Sphere.
An Ascension Path works by progressively increasing your power and link to the sphere. Initially this will offer a mechanical effect and roleplaying effect and then over time these will progress to more power or new powers depending on many factors. Eventually this will transform you into a creature of these Spheres.
A Character can only possess 1 ascension path. This is recorded and accepting two will not work. There can only be one claim on your soul from a Patron and you must lose a current narrative track to accept a new one. This is lost permanently and there is no guarantee you will be able to recover it if you choose to abandon it.
Ascension Paths will be communicated as you progress in them and a point of no return will be signposted.
Boons
A Boon is an effect not granted through typical mortal manipulation of magic such as weaving. They can be granted by many powerful beings (such as Aspects) and sometimes by circumstances or events. It is possible to earn multiple boons – although accepting offers of power from conflicting sources could lead to jealous patrons.
Boons are static. They generally act as described and while it may be possible to renew or change the boon they do expire rather than growing in strength or gaining new powers. They typically last a year.
Boons are typically represented as a card that will inform you of the effect.
We do not record boons, so you do not need to inform a ref when you acquire them.
