Greetings Adventurers,
The Urdrevan sun is going to be baking us this weekend, so we want to share some useful tips to keep everyone safe, cool, and ready for larpin’.
Hydration is Key
- Carry a vessel: It’s wise to keep a drinking vessel on you at all times, whether you are in Haven, heading out on an excursion or into the heat of battle.
- Water points: We have clean drinking water available from numerous taps around the site. Please use them!
Protect Yourself from the Sun
- Wear a hat: With so much time spent walking around Haven, hats are incredibly effective at staving off the direct sun and stopping your brain from cooking. There are plenty of options that fit our nations’ look and feel briefs. Even a simple straw hat – perhaps picked up on your character’s travels – works perfectly. You can easily accessorise it or cover it with a light scarf to blend it into your kit.
- Use light scarves: Wrapping your head and neck in a light scarf is another excellent way to stay cool, especially if you soak the fabric in water first.
- Apply sunscreen: Have you ever tried sleeping in a tent with sunburn? It’s not fun. Regular use of sunscreen is vital this weekend.
Seek Shade and Pace Yourself
- Finding shade: You’ll find shaded areas throughout the site, including large seating areas at our food traders and Haven’s Hearth in the town centre. If you need a break, speak to the Guildmasters; they can likely offer you a spot in their giant tipis.
- Share your shade: Please look out for your fellow adventurers. If your camp has plenty of cover and you see someone struggling in the heat or without access to a large communal space, be a good neighbour and invite them in to cool down.
- Monstering: We’ve made heat considerations for our monstering as well, including shaded muster areas and combat slots scheduled to avoid the worst heat of the day.
- Save your energy: Since our evenings should be very pleasant, we encourage everyone to take it easy during the hot afternoons. Save your energy and enthusiasm for gameplay in the cool of the night!
Look After Each Other Overall, we are taking the heat very seriously across the game. We have the facilities to handle it, but the most important thing is that crew and players communicate and work together so we can have an incredible weekend despite the weather.
Finally, please let us know if you start feeling unwell. Sunstroke can affect anyone, and our medical team is here to help. The medical tent is marked on your site map, but if you can’t make it there yourself, ask any volunteer with a radio to call for assistance.
As the Australians say: Slip, slop, slap.
See you this weekend,
Alex Director of Site Operations
