IC/OC divide – This is the line between in character (IC) and out of character (OC) activities online

Bleed – when emotions bleeds over between player or character, in either direction

Introduction

Menhirs Fate maintains an active online presence across a variety of social media for our crew and players. These spaces are available for people to discuss Menhirs Fate and sometimes divide into smaller sections such as nations groups on Facebook or a variety of channels across Discord.
There are unofficial Menhirs Fate spaces. We maintain our official spaces and while we do not stop unofficial spaces existing they are not monitored by us and we encourage people to use the official spaces. You can report conduct issues that arise from the unofficial spaces.

We are generally aiming to keep the game live at Menhirs Fate. While we want people to be able to engage with the community and talk about the game between events, it’s the events where the game takes place and we do not want participants to be roleplaying online instead.

Raising an issue

An issue can be raised via a mod ticket in the Menhirs Fate discord or for more serious issues conduct@menhirsfate.com

Individual moderators should not be contacted via private messages and should be contacted via the processes outlined above. Issues with moderation issues should be addressed via the contact email.

IC/OC communications

The IC/OC divide for Menhirs Fate means that while outside the event you should not be roleplaying as your character when engaging with other people. Talking about the game is fun and we are only in a field 4 times a year but we are aiming for the game to be played over those 4 weekends and roleplaying online usually deprives people of roleplaying at the game.

It is possible to make connections outside the game which leads to seeking people out in game. Ultimately some levels of OC organising can enhance the game, such as agreeing festival plans for a nation and some can be detrimental such as compiling a list of various faith users in the nation and organising the faith dedications before the game.

This is also important to help with bleed. Outside of the game we want players to be separate from their characters. This can help with taking OC opinions personally and allow reactions to such things happen in game where it is more obviously the character and not an OC argument.

Online conduct

Online conduct follows the same rules as our policy in regards to how we expect both players and crew to conduct themselves. In addition to this we have a variety of suggestions below that are important to online conduct specifically:

  • Assume good faith from other people.
  • Tone is difficult to convey over text.
  • Stay on topic. The Menhirs Fate spaces are for Menhirs Fate
  • Do not criticise other games.
  • Use provided reporting systems do not DM mods directly

Plot

Menhirs Fate plot is primarily delivered at the game with little communicated beforehand. This is to help the game remain live and to prevent pre planning too much of the game. While players may discuss plot and events of previous games we advise players to consider their words and whether it is better to encourage others to seek them out in game rather than explain everything online as that may generate more game.

Topics to watch out for

Our online spaces are primarily for discussing the world of Menhirs Fate and we are aware that certain real world topics can very easily fall into arguments. While it is not against our rules to discuss these topics, discussions around them may be shut down by moderators if they feel the need to. Sometimes

  • Politics. Real world politics are often contentious. Players may be from a wide spectrum of political opinions and while these may sometimes be discussed as they relate to the game, mod teams may shut down a conversation that is causing problems in relation to real world politics
  • Religion. Similar to politics this can very easily slide into contentious discussions. Please respect any players real world faith. Again discussions as religion relates to the game may be acceptable but if they are judged to be causing a problem they will be stopped.
