The Shadow, the God of Mystery and Secrets. This God’s domain is the quiet and the forgotten, those words you hope are said in confidence, lost treasures and things unexplained but surely there is a reason for. That little thing in the corner of your vision, the feeling of being watched from the dark wood line as you sit around the fire and that bump in the night that is clearly a rat, right? The Shadow looks after all things forgotten and where the secrets lie. The Shadow never gives these answers freely, usually it is like for like for if they reveal an answer then that is something they no longer have dominion over.

Tenets of the Shadow

  • Seek what is hidden – In the darkness forgotten truths wait patiently. Only those who seek in earnest, unafraid of the unknown, will find them.
  • A shadow is never truly still – You must change, adapt and shift with the currents of Elandra. Those who refuse to are left blinking in the light for all to see.
  • The unseen path is your burden – Some must brave the darkness and walk the unknown and shadowed path to ensure others can live in the light.

Aspects of the Shadow

The Hood

The Hood represents the unseen presence of the Shadow in moments of secrecy and intrigue. It listens in on confidential conversations, watches over those gathering around maps, and observes who holds objects of mystery. The Hood seeks to know all that is hidden and revels in the pursuit of secrets. Those fortunate enough to notice it can sometimes inquire directly, and in return, the Hood may offer valuable insight or a boon, as it favors those who understand the value of their own privacy. However, for those oblivious to the Hood’s presence, their secrets often slip away or are revealed in unexpected ways, as the Shadow demands its due from those who fail to guard their mysteries.

The Keeper

As its namesake this aspect is the personification of the Shadow’s knowledge and wealth of mysteries and secrets that it holds in its domain. It is the aspect that will usually appear as the broker to those that wish to trade for secrets.

The Explorer

When the Shadow’s curiosity leads it beyond the limits of its domain, it takes the form of the Explorer. This aspect seeks out adventurers or treasure hunters and offers quests to retrieve rare and ancient knowledge or artefacts, sometimes directing these seekers to hidden tombs or mysterious ruins. Seekers must choose between the knowledge they desire or the treasures they uncover, for the Shadow does not allow both. Those who try to cheat the Explorer, attempting to take both secrets and prizes, risk becoming part of the mystery they sought to uncover, fading into the Shadow’s domain forever.
