The Essence of the Urdrevan People

Visualise a society unbowed by the yoke of civilisation, where the folk are proud of their self-reliance and stand together as equals instead of as royalty and subjects. Imagine a world where massive beasts like mammoths, sabre-toothed cats, direwolves, and even dinosaurs are part of daily life.

The Urdrevan draw their strength and inspiration from these great creatures, emulating their power and mastery of the environment.

Social Dynamics

The Urdrevan are nomads, constantly moving through their territories to avoid exhausting any single area. They are exceptional traders, hunters, herders, and foragers, known for their valour, wisdom, and generosity.

Their society is made up of independent bands, with no centralised rule, and they place immense value on maintaining good reputations and strong relationships both within their own company and with those they meet in their travels.

Player Experience

As a player in the Urdrevan nation, you will be part of a close-knit, family-like band that values storytelling, song, and oral history. Generosity is key, with gift-giving being a common practice.

You’ll experience a society on the brink of potential unification, where your actions and alliances can shape the future. Expect to live a life of adventure, constantly on the move, and deeply connected to the natural world and its formidable creatures.

What the Urdrevan People Are Not

Not First Nations Analogues: The Urdrevan do not have personal relationships with spirit animals, and their emblems are about social and dynamic alliances.

Not Illiterate Savages or Cannibals: The Urdrevan are a sophisticated and organised people with their own rich traditions and knowledge systems.
Not Shapeshifters or Beast-People: The Urdrevan are fully human, although they live closely with, and draw inspiration from, their revered beasts.

Look and Feel

The Urdrevan are a people often on the move, so practicality goes hand in hand with style for them. They value well-made items and take good care of them, as materials can sometimes be scarce.

Inspiration has been taken from real-world sources such as Ancient Scythians, the Mongol Empire, Rus warriors, and media inspired by them, especially the fantasy Barbarian trope.

Clothing is often made from materials they have to hand – leather and fur from their pack animals or their prey, with feathers, antler and other tokens used as decoration. Other fabrics are often undyed or in natural colours – browns, beiges, soft greens and blues, and decorated with painted motifs.

Most often these motifs are images of the animals that are most important to their group in a celtic knotwork style, and a key element is the constellations that they navigate by – the stars in a particular location on a day of importance are recorded and painted onto clothing as a remembrance and celebration of the travel they have taken part in.

The Urdrevan prefer clothing that is well-fitted and gives them some flair – personal reputation is important, and some of the finest tailors in the world travel with Urdrevan convoys. Mongolian style wrap-coats and doublets, and jerkins with a more historical European flavour work well, and elements like chunky ‘hero belts’ or layered ‘war skirts’ often used in orc costuming from other larps can pull together a Urdrevan outfit.

Note: Materials for this nation should be sourced ethically and in keeping with UK law. Second-hand leather and fur can often be found in charity shops, and imitation animal materials are also widely available.
