The Essence of the Wonder

The Wonder, with its distinctly magical climate and mysterious origins is a nation of colourful whimsy and fae magics. Imagine dense rainforests with villages perched high above the ground, enchanting moors, and warm fungal swamplands. Inspired by classic fairytale enchanted forests, there is plenty to find in the winding paths of the woodland: sentient flora, curious creatures of mischief, a wandering friend or foe, and a twist or trick around every corner. The Wonder is a place where nature and magic intertwine seamlessly.

Social Dynamics

According to mythology, The Wonder was born of magic. Its inhabitants, known as Wonderfolk, prioritise sustainable practices, repurposing clothing and materials from the vibrant resources around them. They value mediation and peace but can be as unforgiving and brutally honest as nature itself. In The Wonder, harmony is a delicate balance maintained by a collective dedication to truth and cooperation. Wrongdoers are confronted directly about their actions, and punishment often fits the crime.

Player Experience

The Wonder is a place where mystery oozes from the dew of each leaf and ripples through every river. If you are looking for history, investigation, and the challenges of a magical environment, you will find yourself at home here. The nation’s focus on interpersonal mediation offers deep social roleplay opportunities, allowing you to delve into the world’s lore and navigate character disagreements both within your nation and with others.

What Wonderfolk are not

Tribal: While The Wonder as a society is built on connection and collaboration, it does not organise itself into or recognise the existence of tribes. The term ‘tribal’ has problematic connotations pertaining to appropriation and misrepresentation of African culture. Players should avoid any influences from this theme entirely.

Eco-warriors: While Wonderfolk care deeply for nature, their connection is rooted in fable magic and the Gods rather than an activist mindset.

Pacifists: Though peaceful and home to many mediators, The Wonder knows when it’s time for war. Arborists lead the charge, minimising unnecessary death but standing firm when conflict calls.

Look and Feel

In The Wonder, the people are fiercely independent and creative. They do not depend on outside imports to show them the latest fashions – instead they rely on the natural world around them and the sheer variety of colour on offer. “Camouflage” greens and browns would make no sense in this forest, full of abundant megaflora where every colour of the rainbow is on offer. We’re influenced by historical cuts where fabric is precious – Iron-Age style chitons to early medieval T-tunics that are dyed brightly and embellished by the owner to show their skills or that of their relations. Diamond-shaped viking hoods are most commonly worn, along with apron-dresses and fibre crafts of all kinds, and amber, the “blood of the trees” is enormously valued. This is a nation with some Viking and Celtic elements to its aesthetic, but not the grim aesthetic of some media – colour and creativity is everything!
